Description

Jeanne Moreau is an elegant, high-performing French shrub rose bred by Meilland in 2005. Named after the iconic French actress, this award-winning variety is globally celebrated for its classic porcelain-like appearance, robust disease resistance, and exceptionally heavy, intoxicating perfume.

Characteristics

  • Color: Pure, luminous ivory-white to creamy white, sometimes showing a pale-yellow warmth at the very center.
  • Type: Hybrid Tea / Shrub — forms a vigorous, upright, and compact bush with lush, dark green foliage.
  • Fragrance: Intensely strong, rich aroma dominated by crisp, sharp lemon and warm spice.
  • Bloom Size: Large to very large (4 to 5.5 inches wide) consisting of extremely full, tightly layered cups packed with 90 to 100 petals.
  • Hardiness: USDA Zones 5–11.
  • Season: Highly floriferous repeat-bloomer, reliably pushing out heavy, continuous waves of flowers from early spring until the first autumn frost.

Perfect For

  • Scented focus points near patios, windows, or walkways where its powerful lemon perfume can easily fill the air.
  • Exquisite cut flower arrangements due to its thick, sturdy stems and long-lasting, heavy designer blooms.
  • Mixed borders and formal beds thanks to its well-branched, tidy 4x3.5 ft frame.

Care Tips

Plant in full sun and rich, well-draining soil. Water deeply at the base, keeping the dense petals dry to prevent balling. Prune back by one-third in early spring to clear weak wood, optimize internal airflow, and trigger prolific new flowering wood.
