Description

Bernadette Lafont is a sensational, award-winning French florist and shrub rose bred by Sauvageot in 2004. Named after the iconic French actress, this highly resilient variety is globally renowned for its exceptional heat tolerance, heavy disease resistance, and intensely powerful fragrance.

Characteristics

  • Color: Brilliant fuchsia pink to deep magenta with a subtle golden sheen on the reverse side.
  • Type: Hybrid Tea / Shrub featuring a vigorous, compact, and upright habit with deep green leathery leaves.
  • Fragrance: Intensely powerful, carrying a rich perfume of fresh berries, violet, and old rose.
  • Bloom Size: Large (3 to 4 inches wide) forming tightly layered, elegant cups packed with 40 to 60 thick petals.
  • Hardiness: USDA Zones 6–10.
  • Season: Prolific repeat-bloomer yielding steady, abundant flushes from late spring until autumn frost.

Perfect For

  • Sensory focus points near patios where its strong, raspberry-like aroma can naturally fill the air.
  • Premium floral arrangements because its straight stems and robust heads offer a long 7- to 10-day vase life.
  • Hot, sunny landscapes since its durable petals hold up beautifully under intense summer heat.

Care Tips

Plant in full sun and rich, well-draining soil, water deeply at the base to maintain even moisture while avoiding wet foliage, and prune back by one-third in early spring to clear weak wood, optimize air circulation, and shield budding clusters from heavy downpours to prevent balling.
