Description

Plume is an elegant Japanese shrub rose hybridized by Junko Kawamoto in 2014. It is celebrated for its romantic, peony-like appearance and its incredibly soft, layered petals that look like delicate silk plumes.

Characteristics

  • Color: A soft pink blush that deepens slightly toward the center.
  • Type: Shrub or Short Climber — grows as a tall, bushy, upright plant that can be trained upwards depending on how it is pruned.
  • Fragrance: Rich and distinct; a sweet, fruity scent highlighting crisp notes of apple and lemon.
  • Bloom Size: Medium, averaging 2.5 to 4 inches wide with fully double, cupped, and fluffy pompon-style clusters.
  • Hardiness: USDA Zones 5–10.
  • Season: Excellent repeat-bloomer, producing heavy flushes of long-lasting flowers every 4 to 5 weeks from spring to fall.

Perfect For

  • Cottage-style gardens and beds where its dreamlike, romantic form serves as a soft, graceful focal point.
  • Floral cut arrangements and bouquets due to its straight stems, unique peony shape, and strong scent.
  • Hot or sun-drenched landscapes, like its delicate-looking petals, are highly heat-tolerant and uniquely resist wilting in scorching weather.

Care Tips

Plant in a location that receives full sun with rich, well-draining soil. This variety has good natural disease resistance; provide deep watering at the base rather than overhead, and prune in late winter to maintain its neat shrub form or encourage taller climbing growth.
