Description

Sophie Rochas rose is an exceptional French shrub rose hybridized by Delbard and introduced in 2017. Named in tribute to the fashion house of Rochas perfumes, it is globally celebrated for its frilly ballerina aesthetics, nearly thornless stems, and rich, complex fragrance profile.

Characteristics

  • Color: A delicate, romantic ballerina-pink that maintains its sweet, even tone throughout the seasons.
  • Type: Shrub / Short Climber — grows as a vigorous, upright medium shrub or manageable arching vine with near-thornless stems.
  • Fragrance: Exceptionally strong and rich; features a powerful perfume blending classic rose and lilac with citrus and lychee notes.
  • Bloom Size: Medium to large, featuring loose peony-like rosettes with uniquely frayed, serrated, and wavy-edged ruffled petals.
  • Hardiness: USDA Zones 6–10.
  • Season: Prolific repeat-bloomer, generating continuous, heavy waves from late spring through late autumn frost.

Perfect For

  • Cutting gardens and bouquets due to its sturdy stems, intricate petal margins, and long-lasting vase life.
  • Low-thorn zones and walkways such as patio or seating areas where its near-absence of thorns ensures safe proximity.
  • Containers or trellises because its versatile 3-to-4-foot frame can be kept as a tidy pot specimen or easily trained to climb.

Care Tips

Plant in full sun with rich, well-draining soil. This variety boasts excellent natural disease resistance. Water deeply at the base to keep foliage clean, and prune lightly in late winter or early spring to shape the shrub or guide its climbing canes.
