Description

Sputnik rose is an exceptional Dutch cut rose variety introduced in 2012. It is globally celebrated for its vibrant, non-fading coloration, outstanding resilience to harsh weather, and remarkable vase life, making it a favorite for both growers and floral arrangements.

Characteristics

  • Color: A vivid, bright orange-red that remains intensely striking throughout its bloom cycle.
  • Type: Cut Rose / Upright Shrub — grows into an upright, compact, and well-branched structure with thorny stems.
  • Fragrance: Light and subtle; a delicate, refreshing floral scent.
  • Bloom Size: Medium to large, reaching 4 to 5 inches (10–12 cm) wide, featuring a classic high-goblet form with a raised center and densely layered petals.
  • Hardiness: Highly adaptable, showing exceptional performance in hot summer climates.
  • Season: Prolific repeat-bloomer, reliably producing consistent flushes of brilliant color across multiple seasons.

Perfect For

  • Cutting gardens and floral displays due to its rigid stems and an impressive vase life that lasts 10 to 12 days without rotting.
  • Rainy or high-humidity regions as its tightly structured buds are uniquely rain-resistant and highly unlikely to rot during wet seasons.
  • Hot climates and sunny borders where its fiery orange-red petals hold their integrity and resist wilting under intense heat.

Care Tips

Plant in full sun with fertile, well-draining soil. This variety offers excellent natural resistance to black spots and powdery mildew. Water deeply at the base to keep the foliage clean, and prune lightly in late winter or early spring to shape the shrub and encourage fresh blooming canes.
