Description

Toulouse Lautrec rose is an exceptional French hybrid tea rose hybridized by Meilland and introduced in 1993. Part of the esteemed Romantica® collection, it is globally celebrated for its intense, award-winning fragrance, glowing color depth, and classic peony-like form.

Characteristics

  • Color: A bright, luminous spring-yellow or golden-yellow that maintains its brilliant warmth beautifully.
  • Type: Hybrid Tea / Shrub — grows into a tidy, compact, and upright bushy structure with glossy foliage.
  • Fragrance: Exceptionally strong and complex; features a powerful, sweet perfume heavily accented with fresh notes of lemon verbena.
  • Bloom Size: Large, reaching 4 to 5 inches wide, forming a deeply quartered rosette packed with 60 to 90 petals.
  • Hardiness: USDA Zones 6–9.
  • Season: Prolific repeat-bloomer, generating continuous, steady flushes from late spring until autumn frost.

Perfect For

  • Cutting gardens and bouquets as its peony-like shape and intensely fresh citrus perfume function beautifully indoors.
  • Sunny beds and borders where its bright, light-catching yellow color adds warm contrast to the landscape.
  • Dry or Mediterranean climates where its fragile petals open true to color without suffering from high moisture damage.

Care Tips

Plant in full sun with fertile, well-draining soil. This variety can be susceptible to black spots in highly humid or rainy environments. Water deeply at the base to keep foliage clean, and prune back by one-third in late winter to encourage fresh flowering stems.
